UITM AS THE FIRST UNIVERSITY IN POLAND…

1997

AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE PRIVATE FUND

Even before the Polish state introduced provisions to equalize the rights of students of public and non-public universities, UITM was one of the first and, more importantly, one of the only universities in Poland, granting scholarships from its own fund to full-time and extramural students.

IMPLEMENTED AN INTEGRATED UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The first system used by UITM was called the High School Management System. In 2001, a new system called Uczelnia.XP was implemented. The tool was co-created by the employees of UITM. It took just a few years to implement this system in over 60 Polish public and private universities, incl. at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw.

INTRODUCED ELECTRONIC STUDENT ID

Initially, the Electronic Student ID functioned together with the regular Student ID, and since 2006 – in ac-cordance with statutory changes – independently, replacing the city card.

ISSUED THE DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT

UITM was amongst one of the only Polish universities that joined the international pilot project, under which the diploma supplement was introduced. The general obligation to issue a supplement was introduced by the Ministry of National Education and Sport in January 2005.

OPENED THE EUROPEAN LANGUAGE CERTIFICATES (TELC) EXAMINATION CENTER IN POLAND AND ESTABLISHED ITS POSITION IN THE AREA OF INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE CERTIFICATION

UITM was one of the first two The European Language Certificates (TELC) Examination Centers in Poland. Thanks to the high quality of the examinations conducted, the university became a direct partner of TELC gGmbH Frankfurt in the following years. Through the TELC Rzeszów Examination Center, exams are carried out by over 100 public and private universities, language schools and educational institutions throughout Poland. In addition, in 1998 UITM obtained the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry International Qualification accreditation. The Examination Trustee has recognized (several times) UITM as one of the best certification centers in Poland in terms of the number of examinations carried out and the use of the entire LCCI IQ examination offer. In 2016, UITM established the Center for Polish Culture and Language as a Foreigners and received the ac-creditation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for the organization and conducting of ministeri-al examinations in Polish as a foreign language for foreigners.

CO-CREATED THE EUROPEAN INFORMATION NETWORK

UITM, as the first university in the region and one of the first in Poland, actively joined the process of Euro-pean integration in Poland. In 1999, the Regional Center for European Information in Rzeszów was established at UITM while operating under the patronage of the Office of the Committee for European Integration, and then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the following years, the university strengthened the position of the region’s leader in supporting European integration, operating the Eurodesk Poland Information Point (since 2003), the Europe Direct Information Point – Rzeszów (2005 – 2006 and since 2013), the Regional International Debate Center in Rzeszów, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2013 – 2015), European Documentation Center (from 2016)
1999

HAS RECEIVED THE LEADER STATUS OF CERTIFIED IT KNOWLEDGE

1999 – UITM was the first university in Poland to issue European Computer Driving Licenses (ECDL). For many years, UITM was the largest ECDL certification center in Poland.

2002 – Thanks to cooperation with IT global leaders, UITM opened (as the first in Poland)the specialized laboratory of SUN Microsystems.

2006 – UITM was the first university in Poland to be authorized to conduct ECDL ADVANCED examinations. Thanks to the development of the ECDL center in the university, UITM won numerous awards in this field.

Importantly, UITM was one of the first and few universities to introduce certified IT training into the curricu-lum (2001). At the beginning, they were certified training courses by Cisco (CCNA), and then by other leading IT companies (Microsoft, Oracle, Novell, Sun Microsystems, VMWare).

2000

OPENED THE CISCO ACADEMY

The first CISCO Regional Academy was established at the UITM headquarters. Next, a result of dynamic development, our Regional Academy quickly became the second largest CISCO academy in Europe. In 2003, as the first and the only university in Poland (and one of a dozen in Europe), UITM obtained the status of Cisco Academy Training Center, while taking over the care of more than 500 Cisco Academies operating in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. CATC deals with the education and certification of Cisco Academy regional instructors. Additionally, UITM obtained the right to conduct training courses preparing for obtaining the Cisco Certified Network Profes-sional (CCNP) certificate.
2002

IMPLEMENTED IN THE DISTANCE LEARNING PROCESS

From the 2002/2003 academic year, UITM introduced the possibility of raising qualifications through dis-tance learning on the Internet.
2004

OFFERED STUDIES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

UITM, as the first university in the region and one of the first in Poland, increased its educational offer of study courses conducted in English. In the 2004/2005 academic year, studies were offered in the following fields: Inter-national Management, Information Technology & Econometrics and Hospitality Management.
2006

IMPLEMENTED ACCESS TO THE WIRELESS NETWORK IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSITY

UITM, as the first university in Poland, launched a stable wireless network, implemented within area of all campuses and university buildings.
2007

AS THE ONLY NON-PUBLIC UNIVERSITY, UITM HAS RECEIVED A LARGE INVESTMENT GRANT

Obtaining PLN 27 million funds for the construction of the International Education Center, located in Kielnarowa, Poland. It has been the biggest grant in the history of the university.

RECEIVED THE TITLE OF IT LEADER

In recognition of its achievements in the field of computerization, the university – as the first and the only one in Poland, obtained the prestigious title of IT Leader, awarded by the Computerworld weekly.
2009

INTRODUCED UNIQUE SPECIALIZATIONS AND FIELDS OF STUDY

2010 – UITM, as the first university in Poland and the fourth in Europe, began education in the unique, English-language specialization of Aviation Management.

2012 – UITM is the first university in the region that decides to include Chinese-language translation specialization in the didactic offer as part of the English philology offer.

2013 – UITM is the first among Polish universities in introducing English-language studies in logistics and logistics in transport to the educational offer – Logistic in Transport.

2017 – The first General Aviation studies in Central and Eastern Europe are launched at UITM.

EDUCATED MORE THAN 1000 FOREIGNERS

UITM is one of the most internationalized universities in Poland. As the first non-public university, UITM was able to boast of educating over 1000 students from abroad. Currently, every fourth student of UITM is a foreigner.

THE NON- TEACHING INCOME HAS REACHED THE LEVEL OF 55%

Having in mind the predicted demographic decline, already from the beginning of 2000, the UITM authori-ties, pursued a development strategy based on the diversification of sources of income. Scientific-research, service and expert activities were developed. Since 2011, non-teaching income has reached the level of nearly 55%, which places UITM in the forefront of Polish universities.

ISSUED THE FIRST TRANSLATION OF „PHILOSOPHIAE NATURALIS PRINCIPIA MATHEMATICA” BY ISAAC NEWTON

Thanks to the cooperation with the Copernicus Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the Jagiellonian Uni-versity, UITM translated one of the most important works in the science history. Readers had to wait over 300 years for the publication of Polish translation.

GAVE UP ON TRADITIONAL FORM OF STUDENT RECORD BOOK

UITM was given priority among Polish universities in the preparation of procedures and technical solutions enabling giving up on traditional paper record books.
2015

OBTAINED THE AUTHORISATION TO RUN DOCTORAL DISSERTATIONS IN THE DISCIPLINE OF SOCIAL COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES

UITM is the first private university and one of four universities in Poland (next to the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University and the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University) with the authorization to conduct doctoral seminars and conduct doctoral dissertations in the discipline of social communication and media studies.

HAS BEEN AWARDED RANK OF PREMIER+ CENTER

The Cisco Academy operating at UITM has been awarded the rank of Premier + center as recognition for the achievements in support of the Cisco Academy operating throughout Poland and for the training of Cisco instructors. UITM received this award as the only institution in Poland.
